IAA Heads of Space Agencies Summit
on Climate Change and Disaster Management

On Friday 18 September 2015, the IAA Heads of Space Agencies SUMMIT on Climate Change and Disaster Management attended by 25 agency leaders was held by the IAA to engage active dialogue on topics of global concern and participants welcomed a Mexico Declaration. The Summit, hosted by the Mexican Space Agency (AEM), and sponsored by Lockheed Martin Corp., China RS Geoinformatics, ESA, CNES AEM, ROSA and SpaceNews addressed all aspects of the contribution of space activities to the understanding and solving of the challenges of climate change and disaster management. The opening ceremony was chaired by Mtra Monica Aspe, Vice-Minister for Telecommunications of the Mexican Government, Ignacio Pichardo Lechuga, Federal Deputy of Mexico, Contralmirant Froylan Jimenez Colorado, Joint General Director of Communications of SEMAR and General of Division Carlos Rodriguez Munguia, Head of the Mexican Air Forces. The IAA summit was very successful and attended by over 300 participants. The IAA appreciated the presence of Luis Ramirez Quintanilla of Chile who maintained his participation while his country experienced a very severe earthquake a few days ago. A meeting of the Heads of space agencies with Mexican students chaired by Marius Ioan Piso, ROSA and Johann-Dietrich Woerner, ESA, followed the summit. A press conference also followed the event with Dr. Francisco Mendieta, AEM, Dr. Jean-Michel Contant, IAA Secretary General, Dr. Jean-Yves Le Gall, CNES, Sandile Malinga, SANSA, South Africa, Alice Bunn, UK Space Agency and Ger Niewpoort, space agency of the Netherlands.
The International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) organized the Heads of Space Agencies Summit on Climate Change and Disaster Management held in Mexico City, Mexico, on 17-18 September 2015.
Thursday 17 September 2015 was devoted to a one-day IAA international conference on Climate Change and Disaster Management and the evening was the occasion of a Gala dinner.
Friday 18 September 2015 was the Summit day. The Summit, hosted by the Mexican Space Agency (AEM), addressed all aspects of the contribution of space activities to the understanding and solving of the challenges of climate change and disaster management.
